How to geocode addresses

Geocoding means calculating coordinates from address data. This information can be used to represent point data in maps. The geoportal offers different means to geocode addresses:

1) To search for an address in the map portal.

You can enter part of an address in the search field of the map portal, and select one of the proposed entries in the list. The map centers on this point and the position can be further used with the "link to this object" function.

2) Use the geocoding function of the geoportal API.

Please refer to our online documentation.

3) Use the geocoding webservice.

The geoportal offers a special REST Webservice to geocode addresses. To know more, please read our online documentation.

4) POI Manager

With this new application of the geoportal you can manage POI-Data. Lists of so called "Points of interest" can be loaded, managed and published, and there is also a function to geocode addresses of the points. With the coordinates determined by this function, the POI elements are displayed in a map. They can still be moved to better correspond to the reality. An online documentation can be found here.

If you are interested in the POI-manager, please contact the Administration du Cadastre et de la Topographie.
